Today, we were learning about the Statue of Liberty. We learned that she is 305 feet tall. Her nose is 4 and a half feet long. She weighs 450,000 pounds. That is the same as 45 school buses. Her foot is 25 feet long and her toes are 59 inches long. She is made of copper.
We watched some videos, drew her, dressed like her and compared how long our class was compared to her foot! Today was an awesome day overall but one activity that stood out was writing. We wrote and illustrated books about our monsters. They did an amazing job. Please check their seesaw portfolios next week for a surprise!!!!
We began our American Symbols unit with the Liberty Bell! The kids loved it. We learned some fun facts, watched a few short video clips, made a Liberty Bell out of paper as well as drew one!
I started with the Liberty Bell because there is an event this weekend at the Christiana Mall that I thought the kids would love. From 12 to 4 there will be an area set up by the Lego store where all people ages 4 and up will receive a free Lego Liberty Bell kit. This is happening on both Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25. There are American Symbols throughout the Mall made out of Legos. Here are just a few you can see: This week is the scholastic book fair! The book fair is from Monday, October 19 to friday, october 23, 2015. The hours during the school day are 8:30 to 3:00. On Tuesday, it is bring someone special day to the book fair. This will be during our special time at 10:55 to 11:40.
Our day to visit the book fair is on Wednesday. we will visit it during our special time at 10:55 to 11:40. On Wednesday night, from 5pm to 7pm, will be family night at the book fair. Each year we do a loose change challenge. This is normally how we bribe Dr. Glennon into doing something silly! Please bring your loose change in. Monday is penny day. Tuesday is nickel day. wednesday is dime day and Friday is quarter Day! Here's to an awesome week of reading and awesome books!!!! On friday, October 16, we had Storybook Character Day!
